More than 30 leaders from the faction led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba are attending the party’s special general convention in Kathmandu.
Former lawmaker Pushpa Bhusal, Binod Chaudhary, Dila Sangraula, Uday Shumsher Rana, Devendra Kandel, among other leaders close to Deuba, arrived at Bhrikuti Mandap on Sunday afternoon to attend the special general convention.
The leaders had been publicly stating that the party’s general convention should be held before the election, but they had not openly supported the call for a special general convention. Instead, they had formed a separate group and been exerting pressure on the party leadership to hold the general convention.
The leaders, who had maintained that the party itself should conduct the general convention as far as possible, have ultimately come to participate in the special general convention.
The leaders from the Deuba camp attending the special general convention include Dila Sangraula, Chin Kaji Shrestha, Pushpa Bhusal, Karna Bahadur Budha, Arjun Joshi, Rajan KC, Janaki Singh, Abdul Sattar, Dilman Pakhrin, Uday Shumsher Rana, Devendra Kandel, Nanu Bastola, Anggelu Sherpa, Yogendra Chaudhary, Binod Chaudhary, Hridayaram Thani, Sunil Sharma, and Maikulal Balmiki.
Informing the special general convention about their arrival, leader Guru Raj Ghimire called on other members from the Deuba faction to bring party President Deuba along as well.
